Model 1100 Ceiling-Mounted Electronic Air Cleaner

SmokeBuster Model 1100
The Model 1100 is a two-stage, electrostatic precipitator with industrial-quality filtration components housing a combination ionizer-collection cell followed by an optional activated carbon final filter. It fits directly into the space of a standard, 2' x 2' removable ceiling tile and may be flush-mounted against the ceiling's grid work (Model 1100) or drop-mounted, extending 5 5/8" below ceiling level (Model 1106D). In either case, the visible cover with inlet grille and outlet louvers is hinged to provide access to the unit, when required, without removing it from the ceiling. Each Model 1100 is typically supported by chains or wire from available ceiling joists or girders to avoid placing the approxiately 70 pound unit weight directly on the lightly supported ceiling grid work. An "off-high-low" switch controls two-speed fan operation, indicated by a red power - on light. Opening the cover automatically actuates a safety switch to cut power.
Whether flush ceiling mounted or dropped below ceiling level due to lack of adequate clearance, dirty air is drawn through the inlet grille and flows through the two-stage electrostatic cleaning element where it is stripped of its pollutants. The first stage imparts a positive charge to the contaminant particles, which are then attracted to and retained by a series of closely spaced grounded plates in the second stage. This cleaning element is easily removable and a mild solution of non-caustic detergent may be used to eliminate accumulated particulate. In fact, the electrostatic module is small enough to fit into the average dishwasher.

Designed to respond to these problems, the SmokeBuster line of indoor air cleaners provides ready-to-install, unobtrusive interior air recirculation devices which will remove cigarette smoke, dust, pollen, and other airborne irritants down to the microscopic .01 micron size. Flush ceiling-mount for standard removable tile ceiling systems, dropped below ceiling level to accommodate inadequate above-ceiling clearance, or low profile, compact wall-mounted units offer simple, plug-in operation and easy relocation. The standard factory finish can be painted to match any interior decor, and all Aercology air cleaners operate on 120 VAC/60Hz/1-phase power. Five SmokeBuster models are currently available, with the model number representing the normal air handling capacity in cubic feet per minute (cfm) of each air cleaner.
According to OSHA and EPA officials, air pollution in office buildings, restaurants, waiting rooms, and other public and commercial locations may be up to five times higher than outdoors. In fact, the airtight energy efficiency of today's buildings may actually be adding to this growing problem. The results? Surveys suggest increased absenteeism amoung workers, morale and productivity problems, and greater housekeeping and maintenance costs. Plus the potential for diminished customer levels at retail locations.
Beyond this, the growing rift between smokers and non-smokers has caused additional problems for office managers, retailers, restauranteurs, and employers of all kinds who must provide an enviroment within their facilities in which smokers and non-smokers can peacefully co-exist. The need to accept and cater to the rights of both groups is becoming increasingly critical.
