Angular Contact Bearing Swivels

Benefits of the Crosby
Angular Contact Bearing Swivels

Compared to conventional thrust bearings, angular contact bearings maximize efficiency, reliability and service life of the swivel. This is made possible by the effective manner by which the bearings transfer the thrust loads associated with crane and other lifting operations to the outer portion of the barrel. Each swivel, depending upon its Working Load Limit, contains two or more angular contact bearings. The result is a line of swivels designed for high rotation applications with a lower torque required to initiate the rotation.

Hook Identification

Hook models utilize genuine Crosby shank hooks. Each forged hook is made from alloy steel and contains a Product Identification Code (PlC) for material traceability, the name Crosby and a Load Rating Code forged into it. The hooks also incorporate markings forged into them which address two (2) patented QUIC-CHECKTM features. Deformation Indicators: Two strategically placed marks, one just below the shank and the other on the hook tip, which allows for a QUIC-CHECKTM measurement to determine if the throat opening has changed, thus indicating abuse or overload (See Crosby General Catalog for acceptable distance between marks). Angle Indicators: Indicates the maximum included angle which is allowed between two (2) sling legs in the hook. These indicators also provide the opportunity to approximate, or QUIC-CHECKTM, other included angles between two sling legs.

Lubrication

All Angular Contact Bearing Swivels are lubricated at the factory. Lithium-based grease of a medium consistency is used. Each swiveL 9 tons and larger, is furnished with a pressure lubrication fitting for proper field maintenance. The frequency of lubrication depends upon the frequency and period of product use as well as environmental conditions. All are contingent upon the user's good judgement.

Serviceability

Swivel sizes 2.7 tons and larger are designed so that they may be serviced. On those sizes, only the bearings and the seals may be replaced in the field. All other repairs must be performed at the factory. Once repairs at factory are complete, the swivel will be proof4ested and certified to the original Working Load Limit.
